Tempering

Tempering Heat Treatment is performed on ferrous products already hardened through Quenching.

The main objectives of Tempering Heat Treatment are:

  • the achievement of the mechanical properties of the desired level;
  • the removal of strong tensions existing inside the material that, generated during hardening, can cause material cracking once the breaking load is exceeded;
  • the decrease of resistance till the point of compromise between a good breaking load and a good toughness.

This Heat Treatment can be carried out on rolled, forged or cast products for various sectors, including Oil & Gas, Mechanics, Naval, Nuclear, Aerospace and Power Generation.

GF-ELTI performs Tempering Heat Treatments with plants certified according to the most restrictive European and/or international standards such as API 6A, ASTM A991, AMS 2750, NORSOK M-650, NADCAP and ABS.
